Buffet Spectacular

Do you ever feel like you bit off more than you can chew?  I felt that way the first time I saw this piece.  Well, actually the second time.  The first time I saw it was at an online auction.  It was a beautiful china cabinet and I could see it redone in all it's glory.  I snagged it for a steal.  I couldn't believe my luck!  Then I went to pick it up.  OH, MY!  It was twice the size I thought it was!  It took three of us to load each piece (top and bottom) into the truck.  No wonder it was such a bargain!

It sat in my garage for a year, waiting for attention.  I passed it daily and dreaded having to paint the massive piece.  I went and bought a spray gun for our compressor, deciding to spray paint it.  It still sat there, waiting for me to figure out where I was going to paint it.  That's when I gave it up.  The top, that is.  Yep, I decided to forgo the china hutch top and just keep the bottom as a buffet.  Sacrilege? Maybe.  Practical?  Definitely.

I started by stripping and refinishing the top.  That's the stripper doing it's magic on the top.  It's hard to tell, but this baby's 6 feet long!

I gave it two coats of Old White and CeCe Caldwell's Memphis Blue in the insets.  I was anxious to try it out since I can get CeCe's paint locally and have to order ASCP.  I'm happy to report that without the labels, I would not have known the difference!

A little distressing, a coat of clear wax, and some glaze later and voila -

Ok, well this is a "before" and "after" of the glaze!

Now, voila!
If you're coming to buy this piece, bring your own muscle!

Small Bench and a Coffee Sack

The joy of this business comes from breathing new life into old, neglected pieces.  Some pieces bring more satisfaction because of where they started from.

I can't remember where I found this bench.  I look at it and think, "surely I didn't pay for this!"

But if you look past the filthy pink roses you'll see some pretty awesome legs!

So after dismantling the cushion, I painted those legs in ASCP Emperor's Silk.
One of these days I'll get the lighting on my photos figured out!

Last weekend I found a great burlap coffee sack with awesome black lettering - just the size for this bench.  So I recovered the cushion.

Sometimes anything you do is an improvement.
